FarmEnergy.ai

A pioneering all-Australian collaboration between farmers, solar and battery manufacturers and installers and Australia’s largest clean energy provider

What is FarmEnergy.ai?

FarmEnergy.ai is a collaboration between Farming the Sky, Energy Renaissance, CSIRO, Hydro Tasmania and Entura to utilise the Federal Government funded Battery Breakthrough Initiative, in delivering innovative, Australian Made batteries.

Help Australian businesses reduce costs and emissions

Help local grids become more stable

Drive the transition away from coal and gas based energy supply into the grid

The offer

In simple terms, we provide you with a heavily discounted battery to use for capturing and storing solar energy. This can be used to offset your evening power loads, and when called upon, provide Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS) to the national grid.

Eliminate 90-100% of grid sourced energy

The program will be designed to eliminate 90-100% of grid sourced energy on site.

Grant provides 50% of the total battery installation costs

The grant provides 50% of the total installation costs of the Energy Renaissance Battery which can include infrastructure upgrades, grid connections and applications. Our goal is to help farms maximise existing infrastructure or simplify upgrades required for energy savings and energy security.

Expected 4 year payback (ROI) or less

Expected 4 year payback (ROI) or less, depending on financial structure and infrastructure. We provide annual reporting on the total battery revenue from FCAS, to ensure there is full transparency on revenue earnings.

What is FCAS?

Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS) is a service designed and operated by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) to help maintain the grid frequency close to the nominal value of 50 Hz in Australia. This is essential because frequency deviations outside of this range can damage equipment and lead to blackouts. FCAS providers adjust the balance between electricity supply and demand in real time and help to maintain the overall health of the electricity grid.

What FarmEnergy.ai looks like

Renewable infrastructure requirements

Solar

At a minimum, the installation will require a solar array and inverter that complements the battery.

Existing solar installations may be sufficient to combine with the battery. Each site presents a different solution, and this will be assessed if the grant application is successful.

If no solar exists on site, a new solar installation will be required.

Depending on existing infrastructure, the size of the site and its load, all solar components will vary from site to site.

Battery

The battery will require a small portion of space approximately equivalent to two car parking spaces. This should be located on-site, relatively close to your power meter.

The battery is safe, simple to install and Australian. Find out more about the Energy Renaissance battery here

Finance options

Solar PPA and capex battery (fully funded by the client for the cost of the goods)

Solar PPA and funded battery (zero capital outlay) Expected savings of 30-50%

Asset Finance with DLL Financial Solutions

A combination of the above to suit the clients’ best financial returns

Your commitment

Should the grant application be approved, the farmer would be committing to:

  • Farming the Sky’s proposal to install solar and Energy Renaissance Australian Made batteries on their site.

  • A contract/agreement with Hydro Tas to operate the battery in the FCAS market.

Should the client want a ‘free use’ battery, the client will enter into an agreement with the asset Co/Financier under a lease agreement to ‘house the battery on site and operate it through the infrastructure on site.

Should a solar PPA be an option, the client would enter an agreement for the term of the PPA with the Financier.

Next steps

We are asking interested farmers to fill in a Non-Binding Contingency agreement form registering their interest to participate in this offer before 10th November 2024. Once we receive your completed form, this will permit us to submit a grant funding application on your behalf for your individual site.

Full projects and ROI details will be agreed upon with the farmer once grant funding has been approved.

The commitment outlined above is subject to the success of the grant and is null and void if the grant is not successful.

This initiative comes under the Federally funded “Battery Breakthrough Initiative”.
